The second generation of the full-size Ford Galaxy minivan officially debuted in March 2000 at the Geneva International Motor Show. The car has undergone a dramatic transformation from its predecessor, adopting the New Edge design and receiving a line of upgraded engines. On the conveyor belt, the one-volume machine lasted until 2006, after which it gave way to the legal successor.

"Galaxy" of the second generation is a full-size minivan with a five-door body and a seven-seat organization of the interior decoration.

Its total length is 4641 mm, the wheelbase is 2835 mm long, the width fits into 1810 mm, and the height fits into 1732 mm. The ground clearance of the "American" is 150 mm, and its curb weight ranges from 1600 to 1665 kg.

Specifications. The "second" Ford Galaxy was equipped with four gasoline engines with distributed injection:

  • in-line four-cylinder units with a volume of 2.0-2.3 liters, generating from 116 to 145 "mares" and from 170 to 203 Nm of limiting torque,
  • as well as a 2.8-liter V-shaped "six" with a capacity of 204 horsepower and a return of 268 Nm.

The diesel part was formed by 1.9-liter turbocharged "fours", producing from 90 to 150 "horses" and from 240 to 310 Nm of torque.

The list of transmissions includes 5- or 6-speed "mechanics", 4- or 5-speed "automatic".

The second generation of Ford Galaxy is built on a front-wheel drive platform "B-VX62" and is endowed with an independent chassis design on both axles. The classic McPherson struts are mounted at the front, and the rear is suspended on a multi-link architecture. The minivan's rack and pinion steering mechanism is supplemented by a hydraulic power steering, and all wheels are equipped with disc brakes (front with ventilation) and an ABS system.

The 2nd generation "Galaxy" monocab has a number of positive qualities, including a reliable design, a spacious interior with ample transformation capabilities, good dynamic performance, sophisticated handling and high-quality performance.
But the car is not devoid of negative aspects - "weak" chassis, high fuel consumption and high price tags for original spare parts and components.
