At the International Paris Motor Show in October 2004, the German company Porsche publicly demonstrated the second generation Boxster mid-engined sports car with the factory designation “987”, and already in 2005 launched its commercial production. A year later, the car underwent the first update, which was limited only to the modernization of the power palette.

The two-door was improved more significantly in 2009 - then it was thoroughly "shaken up" the arsenal of gearboxes, slightly increased engine power and made improvements to the exterior and interior. The roadster lasted on the conveyor until 2013, after which it “retired”.

The Porsche Boxster 987 looks beautiful and graceful, and its excellent physical shape is given by a wedge-shaped silhouette, wide hips, from under which steep "rollers" measuring 17-18 inches peep out, and embossed bumpers with aerodynamic elements. Well, the "pedigree" of the car is given by the "drops" of headlights and an elegant fabric roof, which can be removed into the bowels of the body in just 12 seconds.

"Boxster" of the second generation has the following dimensions along the outer perimeter: length - 4342 mm, height - 1292 mm, width - 1801 mm, the gap between the front and rear axles - 2415 mm. The ground clearance of the car is 121 mm, and its "travel" weight varies from 1335 to 1355 kg, depending on the version.

Inside, the German roadster is made in the best traditions of Porsche - analog instruments slightly recessed in the "wells", a sports multifunction steering wheel with a "puffy" rim and an almost vertical console in the center, decorated in the "family" style of the brand with a 7-inch multimedia screen and a beautiful panel climate control. Finishing materials in "Boxter" as for selection - expensive plastics, high-quality leather and alcantara.

The two-seater saloon of the car is equipped with sports seats with an ideal profile, strongly developed sidewalls and sufficient adjustments.

For luggage, the Porsche Boxster has a pair of "cargo" compartments - a 150-liter front and 130-liter rear. However, he does not have a "dock" or a jack - only a compressor and a sealant.

Specifications. Power palette "Boxter" with index 987 includes two gasoline boxer engines - both with six cylinders, a lubrication system with a dry sump, variable valve travel and valve timing, and a more powerful version also with direct fuel supply to the combustion chamber. The motors are combined with a 6-speed "mechanics" or 7-band "robot" PDK and an exclusively rear-wheel drive transmission.

  • The "junior" unit with a volume of 2.9 liters (2893 cubic centimeters) produces 255 horsepower at 7200 rpm and 290 Nm of ultimate thrust generated in the range from 4400 to 6000 rpm.
It provides the mid-engined roadster with good performance in asphalt disciplines - starting spurt to the first "hundred" in 5.8-5.9 seconds and 261-263 km / h of maximum capabilities. With "appetite" the car is in full order - 9.1-9.4 liters of gasoline in mixed driving conditions for every 100 km of track.
  • The "senior" version with the letter "S" is equipped with a 3.4-liter engine (3436 cubic centimeters), producing a herd of 310 "heads" at 7200 rpm and 360 Nm of torque at 4750 rpm.
"Esca" changes from a standstill 100 km / h after 5.2-5.3 seconds, peak gains 272-274 km / h and on average "eats" 9.4-9.8 liters of fuel in combined driving conditions for each "hundred".

At the heart of the "second" Porsche Boxster is a rear-wheel drive "bogie" with a power plant located within the wheelbase and a monocoque body in which high-strength grades of steel and aluminum are widely used.
“In a circle” the car is equipped with an independent running gear with MacPherson struts and anti-roll bars, a rack-and-pinion steering gear with hydraulic booster and ventilated disc brakes on all wheels with four-channel ABS technology.

The roadster is notable for its beautiful appearance, high-quality interior, rich equipment, balanced chassis, filigree handling, good dynamic performance and pronounced prestige.
But it has disadvantages - "oak" suspension, high cost, expensive maintenance and low level of sound insulation, especially at speeds.

Prices. In the Russian market of used cars at the beginning of 2016, you can buy a “second Boxster” at a price of 1,300,000 to 2,500,000 rubles (although often the cost of cars goes beyond these limits, a lot depends on the condition of the car).
