In 2004, the Ingolstadt-based automaker showed the world the next, third generation (C6 index) of the mid-size Audi A6 sedan model, and a little later the line was expanded with a cargo-passenger version with the traditional Avant prefix. After three years, a restyled model was introduced to the market, which improved in all respects - the appearance was noticeably changed, the interior underwent cosmetic changes, and new equipment appeared.

In this form, "A6" was produced until 2011, after which its successor appeared.

In terms of its external dimensions, the A6 in the body of the C6 belongs to the European class E, and in terms of its status - to its premium group. The car was offered in two body styles - a sedan and a five-door station wagon.

The length of the "third" Audi A6 ranges from 4916 to 4933 mm, height - from 1459 to 1463 mm, width - 1855 mm. The characteristics of the wheelbase and ground clearance do not depend on the modification - 2843 mm and 130 mm, respectively. The mass of the car is 1540-1830 kg in the stowed state.

The “third” Audi A6 was equipped with a large number of engines running on both gasoline and diesel fuel.

  • The gasoline part is in-line “fours” and V-shaped “sixes” and eights (both atmospheric and turbocharged) with a volume of 2.0-4.2 liters, generating from 170 to 350 “horses” and from 280 to 440 Nm of torque.
  • Turbodiesel versions were also installed under the hood - four- and six-cylinder 2.0-3.0 liters, in the bins of which 136-239 horsepower and 320-500 Nm of peak thrust lurked. Partnership with the units are 6-speed "mechanics" and "automatic" Tiptronic, or a continuously variable variator Multitronic. There are two types of transmissions - front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive quattro.

The third generation Audi A6 is built on the C6 platform, which implies the presence of spring suspensions in the design of both axles - both in front and in the back, a multi-link scheme with anti-roll bars is installed.

The steering system is aggregated with a hydraulic booster, and the brake package is represented by disc brakes on each of the wheels (ventilated at the front) with ABS.

The arsenal of the "third A6" has a number of advantages - good dynamics and efficiency, high-quality interior, rich equipment, excellent handling, well-thought-out ergonomics and spacious interior decoration.

Not without its drawbacks - a large turning radius, high cost of original spare parts, expensive maintenance and modest ground clearance.
